                                                                                                                                              Holy Thursday

Dearest Sisters,

Love as I have loved you (John 13:34).  Jesus gives us this new commandment  in remembrance of his Last Supper, which we commemorate today.

The Church begins to celebrate the Easter Triduum of our Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection on Holy Thursday.  It commemorates Christ’s  institution of the Holy Eucharist and of the  Priesthood.  Our religious family, Disciples of the Divine Master,  was particularly blessed  on  Holy Thursday  1947 when we  received our Diocesan Approval. We mark with profound gratitude our Eucharistic-Priestly-Liturgical birth and presence in the Church.

Our Bethany Prayer, composed on a Holy Thursday in 1958, is a gift and inspiration of our Founder Blessed James Alberione for us disciples called to contemplate and follow Jesus Master in his Paschal Mystery (RL 7).  We cannot but be awakened to our real identity which springs forth from the living out of  Christ’s  Paschal Mystery as modeled by Martha and Mary.  It is also in this characteristic of a simple lifestyle that makes us one with Christ in his love for the poor.

In preparation for the coming Synod of Bishops on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment, our Mother General Sr. M. Micaela Monetti, in her Circular N.1, expressed her desire  that this ecclesial event may find us attentive and cooperative in every community, ready to participate in the diocesan initiatives that are planned, according to the possibilities of each one: with intercessory prayer, an examination of the spiritual quality of our consecrated life, the hospitality and the witness that radiates the beauty of a life offered to Christ and to his Church.

We, as community in the Province, heeds the 4th Call of the 9th General Chapter:  Go Out – Welcome – Accompany the Youth.   Sr. M. Janice Golez, designated as director of the Pastoral Care for the Youth and Vocations, is assigned to share the reality and culture of the youth today to every community.  She will also facilitate the presentation of programs and activities that may be initiated in our communities.

Let us entrust to  Christ our Master as we pray for these intentions: - the young women in observation and discernment in our community, Joyce Celiz from Negros Occidental and Wenling Wu from Mainland China;  – the forthcoming PDDM Provincial Superiors Meeting in Rome on April 26-30 in which Sr. M. Victoria Victorino and myself are participating;   – the consultation for Local Superiors to be facilitated by a Provincial Councilor on April 25 - May 10;  – our sisters suffering from illnesses, and  concern for our elderly parents;  - the fraternal visit to DMC Antipolo community on April 10-14 and AC community on April 16-18 will follow.

I am confident of your continuous prayers for which I am truly grateful.  I thank you heartily for the hospitality, docility and collaboration you visibly manifested during my recent visits to the communities.

In the love of our Risen Master and Lord, a joyful and blessed Easter!

Sr. M. Anthony Basa PDDM
